Efficient drainage from Alldrain is the best defense against a "war over blue gold"
In recent months, our governments have been outspoken about the need to strengthen our defense capabilities. Defense spending across European countries had to be raised to 5% of GDP, as the threat of war from Russia suddenly seemed alarmingly close. What received far less attention, however, was another war: the one over “blue gold”—water. Yet awareness is growing that we need to handle this resource, which we currently take so much for granted, with greater care. Alldrain puts that care into practice through efficient drainage systems.
Water is an indispensable resource, but it’s becoming increasingly scarce. Throughout Europe, reserves of clean, potable water stored in deep underground reservoirs are dwindling. Fifteen percent of these groundwater bodies are in poor condition: depleted, contaminated, or both. The hardest hit are countries with industrial agricultural production, including Spain, France, and Belgium. Given the rising population and urbanization, the melting of glaciers worldwide, increasing periods of drought, and irregular precipitation patterns, it seems highly likely that these problems will only intensify in the coming years. And a “war over water” cannot be ruled out.
Preventing a water shortage
Alldrain therefore takes responsibility for preventing this proactively and actively contributing to solutions—particularly by continuing to invest heavily in innovative and efficient drainage systems. Smart and balanced systems for water discharge and water supply are crucial for sustainable water management. Our level-controlled drainage systems discharge water during wet periods and retain it during dry spells. Alldrain’s drainage pipes feature thousands of tiny perforations that absorb groundwater and allow it to flow gradually into the pipe.
The collected water then flows through the pipes to an end pipe, where it’s discharged into a watercourse such as a ditch, an infiltration field, or a drainage well. By actively discharging excess water, we prevent water accumulation in gardens, on farmland, or around buildings, avoiding damage and problems with plants and foundations. And by raising the groundwater level during periods of drought, we achieve optimal soil moisture and reduce our dependence on whatever rainfall nature provides. Prevention is better than cure. This adage applies not only to increasing defense budgets to prevent actual warfare, but certainly also to maintaining efficient water management. And Alldrain can rightfully call itself a leading specialist in this field.
